Section 4 : Kfarbnine - Sir Ed Danniye
Sfireh Hosn Roman Temples
The village of Sfireh is named after Roman emperor Septimus Severus who built a fortress and temples in the area. The temples of Hosn Sfire are considered the second largest religious complex of the Roman period in Lebanon after Baalbeck. Hosn Sfireh consists of 4 temples and column altars located in the outer space. There hasn’t been any archaeological excavation on site to determine the identity of the gods of these temples. But the column altars are considered as a characteristic of this religious site. The site was used as a station for caravans going from the coast to the Bekaa valley.
