Although it is generally a safe place, the LMT, like all trails in the world, is not without risk.. The guidelines below are precautionary measures intended to help you better enjoy the trail.
- • Tell someone where you are going, the sections you are hiking, and when you plan to return or reach the next destination.

- • Carry a first aid kit to treat scrapes, blisters and sprains.
- • Ask for the local dispensary near you. Health services are available at dispensaries in some but NOT all villages of the LMT.
- • Look after your feet, shoes and socks. Take the time to clean your feet and boots and change your socks.
- • Dehydration / sunstroke can be a major risk particularly in summer. Always rest in the shade and protect your head from the scorching sun. Avoid T-shirts that leave your neck totally exposed. Instead, wear polo shirts with a collar and wear a hat not just a cap.
- • Sunburn is a risk all year round but particularly dangerous from June through September. Make sure you wear sunscreen and renew it regularly.
- • Insect bites: Carry a small can of insect repellent.
- • Landmines: All reasonable precautions have been taken to identify and avoid landmine areas. In addition the trail has been walked repeatedly by groups and individuals to make sure it is safe. Stay on the trail at all times.
- • Hunting: Beware of reckless hunting since hunting restrictions are not properly controlled in Lebanon.
Most importantly, when you walk on the LMT, don’t forget to respect the LMT hiking ethics and be aware of issues of cultural sensitivity.
