Baskinta is located 40 km from Beirut and at an altitude ranging between 1,000 and 2,655m at the peak of Mount Sannine. Baskinta is known for the abundance of its water springs most important of which are Sannine and Bakish.
Name
The origin of the word “Baskinta” is Semitic and means the place of residence.
Attractions
The ruins found in Baskinta today indicate that the village witnessed the passage of many civilizations from the Stone Age to the Kanaanite and Phoenician eras, and more recently the Ottoman period.
Some of Baskinta’s oldest vestiges include animal, fish and snail fossils that date back to more than 80 million years. In Baskinta are also found rock-cut caves and grottos, namely Seif El Dawla Cave in the Baskinta Valley, in addition to several sarcophagi attributed to the Phoenician era.

Baskinta is the hometown of many locally and internationally renowned authors, poets and artists such as Abdallah Ghanem, Amin Maalouf (neighboring village of Aain El Qabou), George Aroyan, Mikhael Naime, Sleyman Kettaneh and Rashid Ayoub.
