Niha

Niha - North Lebanon

Niha is located 69 km from Beirut and reaches an altitude of 1,850m at the peak of the Niha Mountain where the Niha Fort stands. The village is rich in many types of wild trees such as oak, cypress and pine.

Name
The origin of the town’s name is Syriac, meaning the quiet and peaceful.

Attractions
One of Niha’s landmark attractions is the Niha Fort also known as Shakif Tairoun. Remains found inside the cave suggest that it was built in the Roman era. Researchers also found inside it three paintings of a male, female and a baby with wings, which led them to believe that the painting represent the Roman god, Hercules. Niha is also home to Nabi Ayoub Shrine, an important religious site for Druze.

Eminent Figures
Niha is the hometown of Lebanese singer Wadih Al Safi, one of the most important Lebanese talents of all times. Born in 1921, Wadih Al Safi participated in numerous Lebanese, Arab and international music festivals. He is most famous for his songs featuring Lebanon’s cedars, heritage and history. Since the beginning of his career, Al Safi has performed/composed more than 3,000 songs.
